Protect Your Personal Information |
Refuse to give your personal
information to anyone by phone or internet... Never give any of your credit card numbers or social security number, bank account information or any other personal information to anyone over the phone or Internet. Minimize the exposure of your social security number and credit card numbers to businesses and other agencies. If you are asked to reiterate or rewrite your social security number for a business that you know already has your number, refuse to write it down again. Ensure that you are shredding and disposing of properly all your credit, debit and ATM card receipts. However, it is now required by law that only the last four digits of your card numbers are printed on these slips. Question companies or businesses that print more than the last four digits as to their practice and report these businesses to your local police. Even your utility bills need to be scrutinized when you receive them, and in a timely fashion. Ensure that all the charges appearing on your utility statements are yours and that the charges on them are viable for your home. |
